Short information in english about
Lögdö Bruk –iron foundry
Lögdö Bruk was established in 1685 as an iron-foundry. Iron-ore was shipped from the middle of Sweden by boat to Lögdö, to get to this area because of the necessity of charcoal in the production of bar iron for export to all of Europe. In the middle we had iron-ore and in the north we had the forests. In 1850, Lögdö Bruk, had 295 people registered and connected to the production at Lögdö Bruk. In the end of the 19th century the demand for iron from Sweden went down and the sawmill-industry had an explosive expansion in the region. 1878 was the last time that the blast furnace was heated and Lögdö Bruk shifted to agriculture in large scale.
During the 20th century the owner SCA had different kind of activities at Lögdö Bruk and in 1985 they sold the properties to, among others, the municipality of Timrå. 2004 the municipality of Timrå established Lögdö Bruk as a culture reserved area. Since then the area has become an asset to the inhabitants and visitors from all over.
In 2009 an eu-project started which main goal is to develop the area and make it an arena for the creative industry. It ends 2011 in December.
